Which coffee grinds do I want?

Grinding coffee beans exposes the surface of the bean to air. It is the oxygen within this air that causes coffee to go stale. Coffees freshest flavours are unlocked by you when you grind your beans, not before. That is why we strongly recommend that you order your beans whole.

This allows the coffee flavour to be maximised for your enjoyment. To be released by you only at the moment you are ready to drink.

Of course we do not want the whole world to buy a coffee grinder just to grind their beans at home, that would be a waste. We are happy to lend you our grinder at the point of sale. Your freshly ground coffee will then be placed in a compostable potato starch bag, so that the coffee remains as fresh as the moment it was ground.

If you grind your own bean then you will likely grind in one of the following ways:-

Fine Grind

This grind is powdery and most commonly used in espresso coffee machines or drip coffee makers with cone shaped filters.

Medium Grind

This grind is similar to sugar and is primarily used for vacuum and drip coffee makers, particularly those with flat bottom filters.

Coarse Grind

This grind has the largest particles and is the most commonly used in a french press or cafetière.

Whole Bean

Grinding coffee beans unlocks the flavour bound within the cells. It causes an instant release of aroma and is coffee at its best. Our coffee can be posted as a whole bean so you get to experience this burst of aroma and flavour as and when you need it. Alternately, we will happily grind the coffee for you.
